paleodish's posterous

a new do...out for brunch and an afternoon at the distillery = wicked day!

so i woke up this morning feeling pretty fresh i must say.  last night we went out for the virgo bday bash, so a few drinks were consumed.  as i mentioned yesterday i had a glass of wine while getting ready and then over the course of 4 hours at the bar i had 4 vodka and sodas and 1 tequila shot.  not even sure that the vodka sodas even contained a full shot haha...a little on the weak side, but who's measuring ;)  i was more pleased that there were no late night phone calls for greasy grub delivery on our part when we got home.  lots of water it was and off to bed i went.

woke up early today and got my hair did! =)  had an americano while at the salon, my day was off to a perfect start.  amazing scalp massage, wonderful smelling hair products and someone else blowdrying my hair...total bliss.  from there, dusty came to pick me up and we went for brunch at vivetha.  i had an omelette filled and topped with sauteed onions, mushrooms and peppers and a side order of bacon.  delicious!!!

next stop. the distillery district.  we strolled around there for quite some time, browsing in various shops and then stumbled upon soma chocolatier.  we wanted to try a taste so we bought this!

ps- 3 months until christmas!!! bought my first gift today! =D

i love shopping and wicked license plates!

(download)

i LOVE fall!  although it feels more like summer today, which i love just as much.  i also doubly LOVE shopping for fall-ish clothes.  so today after work, i went down (again haha) to queen west to pick up a jacket and mitts (cringe) that i absoloutely adore and had put on hold.  fast-forward now to the drive home.  we were under the gardener, right about to get on it, when we saw a license plate up that read "AS RXD"!  literally minutes later, we were driving in the beach and found ourselves behind another personalized license plate that read "BPOSITVE"!!!  triple LOVE!

Positive

so...with the weekend upon us, stay positive!  all of you have made some successful gains this week.  i have REALLY been enjoying reading all your blogs (i am a total blog nerd), so don't let the house of cards fall.  if you find yourself having a little treat or two, don't beat yourself up.  having said that, don't let guilt from a small pleasure make you feel bad enough to slip right off the deep end.  we are all strong...it is a choice.  so make smart choices this weekend...i know we can all do it...moi included!!!  okay, enough yapping from me...i am off to get ready for the bday festivities.  (thankfully, i strategically planned my hair appt for super early tomorrow morning...so i won't be going nutso tonight with the red vino...right? haha)

today's bulkbarn visit...dun dun dun...

day 4 - at lunch today, i went out with one of my girlfriend's from work and drove her to the nearest strip plaza so that she could pick up lunch.  i brown bagged it today, so i was set!  after she picked up her eats we decided to quickly venture over the Bulkbarn.  in and out...don't make eye contact with those cheeky chocolate covered raisins, wine gums or sour keys i told myself.  i wanted to scoot in and pick up some raw macademia nuts to snack on, but all my ol' faves were calling my name!!!  gosh that store is so tempting...my friend picked up some ju jubes and chocolate caramel balls.  i escaped without caving...minus 2 jubes and 1 caramel ball haha!

today i felt so much more prepared.  PREPAREDNESS = SUCCESS.  there were lots of options to choose from for my meals today, as the fridge and cubboards are stocked.  i felt really good all day...i could actually walk, climb stairs and sit down properly without any discomfort haha.  geez alex, those damn deadlifts, squats and walking lunges messed me up for a few days lol!  aside from rollin' and stretchin'...today was the first day back at the gym wod'ing.  it felt really good to get back in there and get a good sweat on!

today's wod:

Complete 6 rounds for time of:

  • 5 Ring dips (black band)
  • 5 Hang power snatch (65% bodyweight) - I did 45 #
  • 20 Double-unders

Time: 5:49 - after the wod i realized that i should have either gone for bandless ring dips or higher weight on the snatch

breakfast:

2 hardboiled eggs

handful of raw cashews

lunch:

grande americano (black)

handful of macademia nuts - god i forgot how much i love these!!!

avocado

tomato and cucumber salad topped with tuna

dinner: a bunch of randomness...i was late getting home after the gym and then shopping on queen west tonight =)

2 bubies pickles

very boring spinach salad with leftover chicken haha

handful of sunflower and pumpkin seeds

small bowl of strawberries

the real challenge is going to be tomorrow night...

during the weekdays i eat really well...but tomorrow is another story.  a group of us are going out to celebrate my friend's, my husband's and my birthday.  we are headed to the bier markt.  come on back to hear how it goes...dun dun dun...;)

stockin' up!!!

this morning started in a bit of a frenzy...you know those days where you wake up in plenty of time to get ready and go to work...and then all of a sudden take a peek at the clock and you are surprisingly cuttin' it close!?!  i am sure that some of you can relate to this.  anyways, i didn't have much time to throw a lunch together this morning...and to be honest, even if i did the fridge was looking a little sad.  NOT ANY MORE... =)

when i got home from work this evening, i sat down and made a list of goodies that i was going to buy to replish my fridgeroo.  in addition to what you see in the pic, i also went to rowe farms and picked up some ground beef, turkey, pork chops and chicken breast and thighs.  i love that we are all sharing ideas, recipes and our day to day happenings on these blogs through this challenge.  i find it very motivational and encouraging.  i told myself i am going to try to use this time to restore some creativity in the kitchen.  i bought stuff tonight to make a big ass batch of paleo chili tomorrow...and i am also going to attempt a new recipe, which is going to be "parsnip and sweet potato fries."  so excited to give them a go and try out this new wicked kitchen utensil that i bought several weeks ago.

i picked up this fancy slicer at a store in my hood called STACK.  it is German made and gets super good reviews.  it is the v-5 power version, and has the capacity to slice and dice 10 different ways.  i will let you all know how it works after i put it to good use this week =)  finally, to help with my quick, grab and go breakfasts, i boiled up a whole bunch of eggs tonight, so they are ready for the morns!  i bet you didn't think hardboiling eggs could get even easier right!?!  i highly recommend this product - the silicone foodpod, by fusionbrands.  it is fab for as i mentioned, boiling eggs, but also steaming mussels and blanching/steaming veggies.

okay...here is the run-down of day 3!

bustin' down the bday excuse walls

Cute_cupcakes-1633

soooo...day 2 has come to an end...and success was met.  today was my husband's birthday and so we went out on the town to celebrate this special day.  we ended up going to this restaurant called Cabernet  in the beaches.  of course i would be lying if i didn't say that there weren't items on the menu that didn't temp me to want to diverge, but i (well actually we) were both able to keep things on track! =)

sometimes i use "special" occasions to allow extra treats and permit eating stuff i usually wouldn't.  sure it tastes good while eating it, but honestly whenever i eat something super crappy now...especially a gluten filled snack, i end up seriously feeling awful.  when i say awful, i mean hunching over and rubbing my belly vigorously because it is so bloated and hurts like mad.  i have become so sensitive to this now.   i just can't do that anymore. i think about that icky feeling when i feel the urge to "cheat".  all urges usually pass if healthy alternatives are there to take their place!  this evening we both left the bistro feeling full, but not stuffed and TOTALLY satisfied!!!

Breakfast:

1 hardboiled egg

Snack:

2 handfuls of raw almonds

Lunch:

veggie salad topped with lemon tuna with balsamic and olive oil

Dinner:

mushroom, garlic and onion steamed mussels

roasted veggies (red pepper and zuc)

grilled striploin with grainy mustard

2 glasses of red wine

Kickin' off THE Ontario REAL FOOD Challlenge

Dl

Helllooooo out there!

This past weekend I competed in the Element CrossFit Challenge Team Challenge, @ Element CrossFit in Missisauga/Oakville. What a blast it was!  Thank you to everyone involved.
While I was there I saw something written on one of the whiteboards about signing up for the upcoming Ontario REAL FOOD Challenge.
This immediately peaked my interest.  For the most part, I already eat fairly strict Paleo, but decided to email Alex to see if I could participate in this challenge for a couple different
reasons.

My goals:

I want to GET STRONGER...and work on building more muscle mass.

I also want to take this time to focus on improving food quality.

Oh ya...and people often ask what I eat for various meals, so I decided this would be a great way of tracking exactly what I am eating on a daily basis.

So excited to do this...it really couldn't have come at a better time!!! =D
