Mints2

howdy friends...

junior mints!...one of my biggest faves, have such a soft spot for them.  andrew burns mentioned something about these bad boys on saturday while at the o-lifting seminar and ever since then, the vision of that damn white little box with green writing wouldn't leave my head.  check out the pic...i was so excited to dig in that i opened them on the wrong end! have to say though, that i thoroughly enjoyed them as a little treat.  have to say too that i really think the box has totally shrunk since i last remember lol...but...the box does state it was REAL chocolate!!!  ;)

this post is super short  short and sweet.  i am tired...perhaps more sleepy than usual from being a lazy bum today.  although i did head out for a lovely walk mid afternoon.  going to hit the sack after i am done writing this.

today's eats:

breakfast:
2 hardboiled eggs
small bowl of mixed berries

lunch:

tall americano
4 small pepperettes
cucumber and tomato salad topped with tuna
sparkling water w lemon

snack:

handful of mixed nuts
box of junior mints

dinner:
4 egg omlette with onions, red pepper, spinach and leftover ground beef
sparkling water w lemon

it's the real FOOD challenge, not the real drink challenge right?!? ;)

sorry i have been MIA over the last few days.  i am super pleased to report that my eating has continued to be solid.  however red wine, a polar bear and i were good friends and bonded on saturday evening haha.  this weekend i took part in the greg everett olympic lifting seminar.  this 2 day lifting workshop was lots of FUN!  great group...small-ish...16 people or so, which was fantastic because we got lots of attention and assistance.  learned A LOT...some fabulous cues and many laughs and giggles along the way.  i would highly recommend this seminar.

soooo anyhoo...saturday night a few of us decided to go out for a steak dins and a frollick on the town.  we ended up going to the bier markt...such the default/back up joint that we also fall on!  before dancin' and some serious people watching at the bar...we went to the keg on the esplanade for some eats.  several of us at the table shared a couple bottles of j lohr, so exact glasses were a little trickier to stay on top of.  let's just say it the vino was flowing ;)  wonderful company, more chuckles and good convo def made everything worthwhile.  i was also super happy that my food choices this weekend were clean.  even while on the go, smart decisions were made.

mini rant and oct 7's eats

Thought I would include my direct post from my PALEOdISH blog this evening...

Are you busy?  Do you work long hours?  Get home late from work?  Feeling like you are always on the go?  Family pulling you in all directions?  Many of us can answer yes to at least one, if not all of these questions.  However, don't let these obligations that you may have, allow EXCUSES to start spewing out of your mouth.  Let's face it, all of us have tons of shit to do!  This is probably the number one excuse I hear all the time.  "I am just so busy, which makes eating healthy so difficult for me."  Lie.  Don't fool yourself into thinking so either.  Quick and easy grab and go grub doesn't have to equal total CRAP!  If you are concerned with time as a factor, there are plenty of options that are super fast, satisfying and nutrient dense.  Make time.

"Those who think they have no time for bodily exercise will sooner or later have to find time for illness."  ~ Edward Stanley.  This quote rings so true to me when I read it.  In my opinion, the same school of thought can be applied to heathly eating here as well.  YOU are fortunate enough to have control over what you eat, so why not take the reigns?  Yes, it does involve making tough decisions and choices.  Our minds can be an extremely powerful tool.  This can be a GREAT thing, but it can also your worst enemy.  ONLY if YOU LET it though.  Invest time in yourself.  And no...it is NOT selfish.  It is necessary, vital and not always easy.  The easy way out is boring anyways.  Challenge yourself to be better!  Don't wait until after the long weekend, after your birthday, or until the new year...get mentally tough NOW.

I recently finished reading Mental Traps  - The Overthinker's Guide to a Happier Life, by Andre Kukla.  In an upcoming blog post I will write my full review.  For now, I can tell you that I loved it so much...I read it twice!  Without a doubt, I would recommend this novel to EVERYONE!!!  After reading it, I think that there is something that all of us can relate to in some way, shape or form.  Dive in...it will open up your eyes and your mind!  Next patiently waiting in cue to be read is Linchpin  - Are You Indispensable? by Seth Godin.  The line-up on the bookshelf of potential greats keeps growing and growing...I love it!
It's funny that the two things I used to totally dislike...cooking and reading are now two of my most fav things to do!!!  Thank you Alex for your awesome book suggestion.  Like I mentioned, I look forward to sharing my full review with you.  Sidenote:  Alex Cibiri, owner of Element CrossFit   is one insightful dude.  His blog is wicked...and I am totally hooked.  I get so excited when a new post pops up...which is often.  It always makes so much sense to me, makes me think...and is usually exactly what I need to hear.  Check it out at http://www.cibiri.com.  Short n' sweet posts, full of quality.

I will leave you with some quick and healthy meals/snack ideas:

  • eggs...cooked any way
  • fresh ground meat...mixed with veggies
  • garden salads...topped with any kind of meat, fish or seafood
  • burgers with all the fixings, minus the bun
  • mixed nuts - make your own specialty trail mix
  • guacamole for veggie dippin'
  • random...throw everything in stir-fry
  • celery with various nut butters
  • coconut - fresh or shredded
  • chopped and diced fruits and veggies
  • assorted smoothies
  • plus a millions others...get creative!

Instead of turning to frozen entrees, which are jammed full of sodium, sugar, gluten, preservatives and a plethora of unpronounceable words...take a look at your local market or butchers to see what "ready-made" products they may offer.  Pictured above is a handmade meatloaf and pre-marinated sausages.  All added ingredients are totally Paleo.  Lotsa yummy spices.  Both recipes take that middle prep step out and provide products that are ready to throw in the oven.  In minutes...dinner can be served.

tall americano (black)

  lunch:
